How to
describe The Tumblers...one of the most loved bands in the auspicious
Eastern PA music scene...a band that has been described more than
once as "instantly familiar and endearing," yet "exciting
and fresh." Leave it up to the professional writers? Let's see:
"Buzzcocks-at-a-beach-bash"..."Sid Vicious and Nancy
Spungen bopping through the Grease soundtrack"..."start
with The Fastbacks and lock them in a building for two weeks with
a stack of Buddy Holly records"....
Simply
put, The Tumblers have a sound and an appeal that has been crossing
all gender lines and age gaps for years in the Lehigh Valley, PA area
and on tour routes through the South and Midwest. It ain't rocket
science, just a delectable blend of 90's melodic power-pop spiced
with a 50's rock 'n roll feel and a driving 70's punk attitude. And
they make it seem so gosh-darn easy.
The established
songwriting team of Kevin Baumgard and Mindiebug has been banging
out inspired blasts of power-pop for eight years in Eastern Pennsylvania.
As Grieving Eucalyptus, the band procured national distribution and
recognition for several releases, starting with their first release
on Kevin Second's Pazzafist label after impressing the legendary hardcore
bandleader when G.E. shared a bill with his band 7 Seconds. On the
strength of their full-length CD, Just Plain Rock-n-Roll, Grieving
Eucalyptus was picked by Joan Jett from over 40 regional bands to
open a sold-out show in Allentown, PA. The band toured nationally
for four years, cultivating pockets of support from fans and venues
in the Midwest, South, and West Coast. For over seven years, G.E.
received rave reviews in national newspapers, magazines, and fanzines
large and small. More recently as The Tumblers, the band has been
critically-acclaimed with a total of nine nominations in the annual
Lehigh Valley Music Awards, including Best Overall Performer, Best
Original Band, Best Female Vocalist, Best Singer/Songwriter, and Best
Punk Group. The Tumblers CD also has been chosen as a "Top 3
Pick" by the influential music website, PopPunk.com.
As these
things happen, Kevin and MindieBug connected with drummer Ron Herczeg,
another hungry musician from the Eastern PA music scene. With the
personnel change came a fortuitous gelling of talents and chemistry.
Because of this, and to better reflect their sound, the band is now
known as The Tumblers. The band released a self-titled CD in February,
2000, produced by friend and advocate Bret Alexander of national recording
artists, The Badlees. The CD is distributed nationally through Valley
Media and has gained airplay on Y-100-Philadelphia, WXDX-Pittsburgh,
WZZO-Allentown, WQXA-Harrisburg, WHTG-Jersey Shore, as well as appearing
on college radio Top Airplay and Most Requested lists.
